          My Family History

          My mother is from Goodman, MS and my father was from Starkville, MS.

          My mother picked cotton. My grandmother had to flee because of Jim Crow racial conflict in MS. They came looking for her. Then my Dad came up when he heard that there was work in Iowa.

          Living in Iowa

          You have Iowa Nice, but in being nice, we all want that, but it can disrupt progress.

          Today, he holds a Master's degree in Post-Secondary Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and is a Doctoral Candidate at Iowa State.

          My dream is to be successful serving my community, to be a good husband and father, and to see all elements of our community flourish.

          I would love to see Waterloo have better housing, and better resources.

          A Teacher Who Changed My Life

          Bernice Richard was the only Black Teacher at Grant Elementary. She believed in our ability to be successful and had integrity and high standards Dr.

          Walter Cunningham, Principal at East High School, was all about accountability. It didn’t matt
